More from Maine...

        Continued from Page 17

Many Maine parks sold in 2021, more than previous years. Many Maine parks sold to corporate entities. This
will make our renewal efforts more of a challenge as we don’t always get the new contacts/owners forwarded to
us. It could also have an adverse effect on our 2023 ad sales, something to keep a close eye on as renewals
begin. The sale of parks is expected to slow down for 2022 but of course one never knows for sure.

The Maine Tourism Association is creating a job board career center for the tourism industry. Their intention is
to open this to other tourism related associations in Maine to make it industry wide. This will offer not only a
place for anyone in the industry to post seasonal and full time positions but it will also give job candidates an
opportunity to build a resume, upload that resume, and allow employers to search and reach out to potential
candidates in their area. MTA is working on a marketing campaign to advertise this. MECOA has agreed to be
part of this project. Other associations are expected to jump on board as well. This will be launched by Mid-
          March.

Pam Cahill of Howe, Cahill & Company – MECOA’s lobbyist will be retiring at the end of our contract
9/30/22. The finance committee is reviewing proposals for her replacement.

January 19, the Joint Standing Committee on Labor & Housing voted 8-5, along party lines, to report out LD
607, An Act To Restore Overtime Protections for Maine Workers, with an amendment that significantly
increases the overtime payment salary threshold from the current level of 3,000 times the minimum wage to the
new rate of 4,500 times the minimum wage (3,500 times in 2023; 4,000 times in 2024; 4,500 times in 2025).
            your
Some good news - The Labor Committee met and voted unanimously to change LD 607(overtime bill) into a
Resolve). Apparently the governor's office and others were opposed to the bill. This resolve directs the
Department of labor to do various things including help educate workers about overtime requirements and
             is hallowed GROUND
current laws. Thank you to all who made their voices heard to nullify what could have been bad legislation for
          the business community.

          Respectfully submitted
Kitty Winship – NCA Maine Representative
